Management and Operation of Nampula Training Centre and Demonstration Farm, Competitiveness and Private Sector Development Project

The Competitiveness and Private Sector Development Project aims to improve the business environment and enhance enterprise competitiveness in Mozambique by: (a) reducing the cost of doing business in the country; (b) building technical capacity at public sector agencies; (c) strengthening the ability of local intermediaries to enable them to deliver business services to SMEs; and (d) developing region specific interventions in the tourism and horticulture sectors.

This assignment intends to establish thru public-private partnership, a Tropical Fruits Training Center (Centro de Formacao em Frutas Tropicais, CFFT) that is sustainable financially, responsive to market demand, and with managerial autonomy. It is envisioned to become an experiential-based training centre providing services to both agricultural research and education.

The specific objectives of the assignment are: 1) Establish a sustainable and market responsive tropical fruit training center (CFFT); 2) Develop a 50 hectare demonstration farm; 3) Train at least 200 trainees in three years; and 4) Earn income from the sales of demonstration farm produce and training fees. To achieve these objectives, the Project Management Team of AIDSI will undertake the following major activities:

  • Start up the management and operation of the training center and demonstration farm
  • Physical and organizational development of the training center and demonstration farm
  • Systems and processes development for the training center and demonstration farm (development of training modules and manual of operations and training program implementation); and
  • Development of strategies for the sustainability of the training center and demonstration farm.

 

Technical Assistance on Baseline Study on Level of Awareness and Knowledge of Climate Change among Beneficiaries and the Use of Adaptation Technologies

The Government of the Philippines through a grant from the GEFFund (SCCF) is implementing the first phase of the Philippine Climate Change Project (PhilCCAP). The five-year project will develop and demonstrate effective approaches, as well as adaptive measures to increase the country’s resilience to climate change. The project will also strengthen existing institutional and decision making frameworks for climate change adaptation and demonstrate cost-effective adaptation strategies for both agriculture and natural resource management. Under Component 1 of PhilCCAP is the Technical Assistance (TA) on Baseline Survey on the Level of Awareness and Knowledge of Climate Change among Beneficiaries and the Use of Adaptation Technologies, an undertaking that adopts the knowledge management (KM) approach to climate change adaptation.

The AIDSI TA Team is tasked to accomplish the following critical activities:

  • Development and trial of tool kit on public awareness and knowledge assessment and monitoring;
  • Conduct of training needs assessment and development of capacity building strategy;
  • Development and dissemination of knowledge management and communication strategy
  • Collation and reporting of best climate change adaptation practices for uploading to CCC KM platform
  • Development of manual/handbook on best climate change adaptation practices and experiences; and
  • Development of a strategic plan for hand-over of knowledge management and public awareness activity to government stakeholders in both national and local levels.
